Fourth dimension

Diet
Feces-Feeder
Temperament
Short-Tempered
- Wild
Lording over the skies beyond the Isle, Argentavis atrocollum has few aerial rivals. It is a small-scale consolation for the Island'due south other avian creatures, then, that Argentavis seems to have little interest in anything live. Quite apart from what I would have guessed, Argentavis does non have the stooped neck typical of mod buzzards and vultures. I don't know if it adapted this stronger neck to deal with the predators on the Island, or if its lineage derives from before the stooped neck became common in carrion-eating birds. Whichever it meant to be, it has enabled Argentavis to deport smaller creatures with its beak.
- Domesticated
Argentavis is actually slower than the Island's far more common Pteranodon, just it possesses significantly more stamina and tin sustain flying for approximately three times every bit long. Its weighty stature, in comparison to the Pteranodon, allows it to utilize its talons to support the weight of an boosted passenger. Considering its saddle doubles equally a mobile crafting station, it makes Argentavis an excellent creature for traveling and hauling cargo over long distances.
„
Behavior
The Argentavis is an aggressive predator and scavenger. Though they resemble eagles, especially while flight, they are closer to vultures and condors in behavior. They seem to use smell every bit their primary survival tool, using it to discover dead corpses surprising distances away. However, the numerous other predator species which share their habitat are unlikely to exit many leftovers which force them to hunt live prey every bit well. They announced to rely on eyesight for this; however they are either oddly nearsighted for a bird of prey, or just endeavour a hunt when it is extremely convenient for them, as they only set on the living when they are practically on top of them. Once they make up one's mind on a target however, they do not give up easily and are willing to chase players long distances if they become too close. They can be often seen soaring around mountain peaks and various common cold climates, sometimes even in large groups which can make getting by them without conflict difficult, and are made all the more dangerous past narrow, cliffside mountain roads.
Appearance
A magnificent bird of prey that resembles an eagle crossed with a vulture, but much more muscular than either and x times the size. The humongous Argentavis is the largest bird on The Isle by far with their fifteen-20+ human foot wingspans, edging out the Pelagornis and Snow Owl while utterly dwarfing the human-sized Kairuku. Their wings, though massive, are noticeably smaller in comparison to their trunk size than modern birds of prey, pregnant they have to flap their wings more ofttimes and have difficulty soaring. Like other predatory birds, such as the Terror Bird and various modern solar day relatives, it relies on its abrupt beak as well as enormous feet armed with talons to catch and acceleration prey.
Color Scheme and Regions
This section displays the Argentavis's natural colors and regions. For demonstration, the regions beneath are colored cerise over an albino Argentavis. The colored squares shown underneath each region's clarification are the colors that the Argentavis will randomly spawn with to provide an overall range of its natural color scheme. Hover your cursor over a color to brandish its name and ID.

Wild Stats Level-upwards
Type in values of a wild creature to see on which stats it's emphasized. Dark-green values on a high-level creature are very good for breeding. If you lot have already tamed your animate being you lot can try to recover the convenance stats with an external tool.[1]
Argentavis
The stat-estimator does not work in the mobile-view, come across hither for alternatives: Apps
Note that after the creature is tamed information technology gets bonuses on some stats depending on the taming effectiveness. This makes information technology hard to retrieve the levels on a tamed brute, so this tool is only for wild ones, but gives a first impression, how well the stats are distributed.
Taming
For general info about domesticating a wild animate being run across Taming.
The Argentavis is tamed violently, i.east. it must be knocked out and fed with food it likes.
KO Strategy
The Argentavis isn't every bit fast as the Pteranodon but volition however flee when Torpor is getting high and not resume attacking the Player, so exist prepared for a chase. It'due south relatively easy to keep them in range of a Crossbow or Longneck Burglarize but On the other paw, the Argentavis will attack yous if you let it get shut enough: additionally, their natural spawning ranges (primarily mountains) are usually overrun with dangerous predators, and then be aware of your surroundings and be prepared in case the hunt goes sour.
Before its TLC update, the Argentavis had a 3x headshot modifier. The updated model no longer has the bonus that would exist affected past this modifier, though they have 50% additional damage from projectiles compared to land-based creatures.
Shoot and Dodge
The best strategy is simple and constructive: first, become your target Argentavis to fly at the basis level by attacking it with either a Crossbow and Tranquilizer Arrow or a Longneck Rifle and Tranquilizer Dart or a Boomerang. When it comes in for the attack, simply shoot it and and then sidestep to avoid its huge talons. The bird will circle dorsum around and echo the process. When its torpor grows also loftier, the Argentavis will turn and try to wing away; be quick to shoot it down earlier information technology gets out of range. (This strategy is generally non recommended for players using crossbows with less than 300% Weapon Harm, every bit the Argentavis will flee out of range before the necessary tranquilizers can be administered. Longneck Rifles tin withal work well, still.)
Traps
An alternating strategy is to accept advantage of the Argentavis' natural aggression. Because it volition go along the attack in one case provoked and will follow the player a remarkable distance, the Argentavis can easily be lured into a diverseness of traps and taming pens. Low level survivors specially should consider building a simple trap out of Wood or Stone materials to keep the Argentavis immobile and go it away from other predators that would otherwise kill it one time knocked unconscious. One of the simplest traps involves iv dinosaur gateways (wood or rock) and 2 dinosaur gates. It would exist recommended to put walls or spikes on the side so anything for the sides can't get in merely y'all can still do without. Put the gateways positioned in a straight line with gaps just large enough to allow the actor through them but not the Argent. Place the dinosaur gates on the outermost gateways. Continue one side closed and open the other side. Provoke the Silvery to chase yous, line up with the trap, and the Argent will follow you lot in. While it's in the trap, shut the gate and run out through the gaps between the gateways. With it trapped, only tranq abroad while keeping the area clear. While the Argent will deal damage to wooden variants of the dinosaur gate and gateway, they generally tin't practice plenty to come close to breaking it. Note, that you can provoke an Argentavis into chasing you by simply getting close enough, which will help isolate a chosen target from the flock without its other members interference. This method is mostly considered the most effective means of taming the Argentavis, and can be combined with the Rapid Regeneration method seen below.
Rapid Regeneration Method
An extremely piece of cake and efficient method used for taming Argentavis involves their Rapid Regeneration condition event they gain whenever they eat. This method is especially useful because it allows any level Argentavis to be tamed within minutes. All one needs to do is utilise torpor to a wild Argentavis, and then knock it out when the Rapid Regeneration status effect is active. The status effect causes the Argentavis to consume nutrient at an accelerated rate, and it will continue to eat nutrient until the consequence wears off, even later on it has been knocked out. Because its food volition now be significantly drained, it can start beingness fed right abroad and tamed extremely quick. The optimal setup for doing this method would exist to build a structure to trap a wild Argentavis, and then tranq it until it loses aggro. Once this has happened, find and impale a small creature that can be dragged and drag it into the enclosure. The Argentavis will eventually swallow it and proceeds the Rapid Regeneration buff, signaled by the green particles effectually its caput. Once the vitrify has been enabled, finish tranqing it until it is knocked out, and its hunger will continue to driblet at an accelerated rate, fifty-fifty afterward information technology has fallen unconscious. Keep in mind that the Rapid Regeneration buff just lasts for 20 seconds, so be sure to bring a magnifying glass to cheque the Argentavis' torpor and ensure you will exist able to knock information technology out before the vitrify wears off. Some other thing to be aware of is that bringing in the kill for the Argentavis to eat will too attract other wild Argentavis, which will then try to enter or attack the enclosure. Be sure to articulate out the area once you have your Argentavis of choice successfully trapped.
Taming Food
Annotation that the values are for optimal cases, ever bring actress supplies!
For a level-dependent count of resources needed, try an external taming estimator.
Gainsay
This section describes how to fight confronting the Argentavis.
General
The Argentavis can exist somewhat of a challenge to hit with any ranged weapons until the first shot has landed. One time it becomes aggressive, it will accuse until its torpor becomes too high.
Strategy
The methods of killing an Argentavis depends on whether you're looking to engage information technology from the ground or from the air. Ranged weapons similar the Longneck Rifle, Assault Rifle, and even the Sniper Burglarize are suggested if yous plan on attacking it from the ground. Once attacked, the Argentavis volition become aggressive and fly straight towards the role player, head first. This behavior makes them adequately piece of cake to kill or knock out assuming you tin can get a clear shot. If y'all are attacking the Argentavis from the air, perhaps using a tamed Argentavis of your ain, be conscientious of cartoon too big of a crowd. Argentavis tends to spawn in large groups, and attacking one will make all of them aggressive. Watch your dorsum and don't let them trap yous in a swarm.
Weaponry
Ranged weapons are a must. Exist conscientious when using a weapon equipped with a Scope, as they obstruct your field of vision, making you vulnerable to attack past other predators endemic to the Argentavis' native mountain ranges.
Dangers
The Argentavis tin can be unsafe to players with depression-damage weapons; however, if the histrion uses proper strategy, the Argentavis shouldn't be a problem. The Argentavis tin can exist very dangerous in groups of two or more as it can be hard to fight 2 at once, let solitary more than. Don't allow them rile y'all up! Focus on hit them with melee weapons equally they swoop around you lot, and brand sure y'all concentrate. Exist enlightened of other animals in the area, like Sabertooth and other fast carnivores.
Weakness
They are adequately slow despite their appearance; information technology is fifty-fifty possible to outrun them on foot.
Utility
Roles
- Jack-of-All-Trades: The Argentavis could be argued to be one of the superlative near valuable creatures in the entire game due to their expansive versatility. Even a single rather depression-level or un-specialized Silvery can serve numerous purposes like hunting, raiding mid-tier bases, spotter, transport, metal gathering assistant, flight smithy, alpha killer, taming banana, the list goes on. However, if one is to truly experience all the uses that the Argent has to offer, information technology is recommended that multiple are tamed and leveled to fit a specific chore.
- State of war Mount: With a high damage output and excellent maneuverability, the Argentavis is an essential for warlike tribes. The Rapid Regeneration buff—which partially recovers both health and stamina even in flight—helps staying alive. Is effective when either flown solo, having a very large group all exist mounted by unlike survivors, or having a large unmounted group following. No matter the tactic or situation, the Argent tin fulfill many needs on the battle field. (Level upwardly Melee Impairment, Health, and Stamina)
- Hunter: Thanks to its power, maneuvering capabilities, and regeneration, the Argent makes a more than decent mount at hunting down nigh creatures and harvesting the corpses. Smaller creatures can be picked upward to ensure a impale isn't loss. For larger creatures, flying and attacking from above can ensure less damage taken. Blastoff Raptors and Carnos can similarly be stun-locked by its left click attack when on steep surfaces. (Level similarly to a war Argentavis with Melee Impairment, Health, and Stamina, also every bit Weight if desired)
- Send: Keen for long distance transport, especially with its weight reductions and high weight for a flyer. This makes the Argent an excellent pick for mid-tier survivors to transport large amounts of materials and even some creatures over a long distance. (see beneath). (Level upward Weight and Stamina)
- Short Altitude Transport: It tin exist used to transport heavy goods inside a base because it has a loftier mobility and can go about everywhere (Fits through every 2x1 gap) and has a decent weight capacity.
- Flight Mount/Scout: Though it may exist slower than most other flyers like the Pteranodon, few land-based can encompass every bit much ground as the Argentavis can and few flyers tin stay in the air every bit much as an Silvery either, every bit its stamina lets it fly for much longer periods of fourth dimension. (Level up Health and Stamina)
- Actor Killer: Capable of grabbing players both off of their mounts and off the footing. One time captured they tin either be dropped from great heights or dispatched with their talons. (Level up Stamina and Wellness)
- Taming Mountain: The Argentavis is capable of picking up most animals and conveying them to a designated taming spot safely. As long as the animate being existence held is passive, neutral, prioritizes players over tamed animals or has manageable damage, Argentavis high endurance gives you an ability to safely tranquilize it with fourth dimension to spare. (Level up Weight, Stamina. Health should besides exist considered if the animal that is to be tamed is also ambitious and powerful and thus an Silverish must be able to tank damage taken for a period of fourth dimension.)
- Miner Mount: With loftier base and caused conveying capacity and Weight reduction multipliers, the Argentavis is arguably the best mountain to be used for remote mining expeditions. Existence able to traverse long distances past the dangerous terrain and capable of carrying either Doedicurus and Ankylosaurus to relevant resource spots and back, Argentavis allows the survivors to finer get together large amounts of Stone, Metallic and other heavy materials, when no associated deposits are available nearby. (Level upwardly Weight and Stamina)
- Portable Claw-mail service: The Argentavis tin exist hooked onto using the Grappling Hook, making them useful for a number of tasks, such every bit taming from midair. Simply fly in a higher place the area you wish to tame a beast (like a Quetzal), dismount (brand sure to equip a parachute for safety!) and claw onto the Argentavis. Brand sure it's set to follow you- it volition motion a little bit equally you're falling, but when you hook on, information technology will finish; otherwise, it will attempt to land. (Level up Stamina and Health).
- Flying Smithy: If the Argentavis Saddle is equipped, the Argentavis can exist used as a Smithy to craft and repair equipment (Added in TLC Patch #2). This is a popular method used by experienced players to craft absurdly plush blueprints equally the Argent will take more inventory space than a smithy.
- Blastoff Slayer: With a skilled pilot and a properly trained Silvery, it may be the best mountain for slaying Alphas, particularly Alpha Raptors. Stand on steep surfaces, exist mindful of stamina, have some patience, lure target to corpse and hover over in the case of an alpha Rex, and it'll all exist worth information technology (unless you value your time.) Actuate the Rapid Regeneration vitrify by killing nearby creatures to keep your wellness up. (Level up Melee Damage, Health, and Stamina)
- Flock: While the Argentavis doesn't get a pack bonus, a swarm of them can take down the toughest of creatures by virtue of all of their combat traits and are not hard to amass, either past convenance or large amounts of taming. This tin can make them effective against the Desert Titan and Manticore, though information technology would be ill-brash to attempt to take on a Giganotosaurus with this method as its large AoE attacks volition decimate the flock nearly all at once.

The Argentavis reduces the weight of the following resources past the listed amount while they are in its inventory:

Flight
Flying an Argentavis uses similar controls to motility on ground level with a few exceptions. Quirks :
- Volition but move forward upon command. With no forward control issued they will somewhen stall to a halt and hover in mid-air. Even while not moving Argentavis lose a small bit of stamina just to stay aloft.
- Feeding Stimberry or Stimulant to a Argentavis in-flight can let you to fly for longer periods, simply the stamina gain is minor at best and very inefficient unless used in large enough quantities. A Custom Consumable recipe made from stimberries can be far more effective for this purpose.
- Landing is achieved past pressing the jump-key ( Space , , ), causing the mount to move to the ground and land, where your Argentavis folds its wings. Now you can dismount by pressing utilize ( E , , ) every bit with whatsoever other mount or walk on the ground. To start off once again, press the bound-central ( Space , , ).
Note: Tamed and unmounted Argentavis practice not lose stamina while flying. Y'all can use this quirk to acquit large amounts of weight apace with an Argentavis ready to follow.
Carrying
An Argentavis is capable of carrying smaller creatures. This is done by using the alt-fire button ( Rmb , , ) while flying or hovering over the brute. The Argentavis will swing its legs forward in an animation like to its set on. If the grab was successful, yous volition be able to see the animate being existence pulled backside the Argentavis, as well as its name and level. This is very useful for separating a modest, high-level brute such as a Raptor from its pack so that you can tame it elsewhere. The Argentavis can also attack creatures it is carrying past using the default attack button, or release them by pressing alt-burn down again. The beast being carried usually can not assault the Argentavis while it is beingness carried, but can state a hit when it is picked up or dropped. If the carried creature is held too close to the Argentavis, though, it can attack.
The Argentavis is besides capable of carrying a modest creature in its beak. This is done by using the hunker button ( C , , )
An Argentavis is currently able to bear 5 creatures at any one fourth dimension; i in its claws, 1 in its nib, a survivor in the saddle, a creature being carried by the survivor and a creature being carried by a survivor riding the fauna in its claws.
On PvE servers only allied creatures may exist carried unless allowed in server configuration.
Acquit-able Creatures

Notes
For data pertaining specifically to the real-globe Argentavis, see the relevant Wikipedia article.
- The Argentavis can fit in any size of Dinosaur Gate.
- The scientific proper name Argentavis atrocollum roughly translates into "Fell-necked silver bird".
- Though the Argentavis Saddle works similarly to a smithy, it cannot repair items only craft them.
- The Argentavis could have been one of the creatures that lived on the ARK known as Aberration. While the other creatures survived and were mutated past the elements and radiation from the damaged ARK, the Argentavis and almost all other flyers couldn't survive the change in their surround.
- Rather strangely, a tamed Argentavis aggros almost all ambitious creatures despite its size and forcefulness. Even the Dilophosaur volition try to attack it.
- The Argy is like in advent to the Vulture from Scorched Earth.
- Information technology is mentioned by Helena that the Ark's Argentavis is quite unlike from modern-mean solar day vultures, with a larger pecker and a strong, united nations-swooped neck, which is different from how Helena expected them to be. However, it may exist surprising to know that Ark's representation of the Argentavis equally being a more predatory bird is actually surprisingly accurate(though not without some flaws) and that depictions of the creature being vulture-similar in paleoart and scientific circles is non well-supported. Though the extinct group that the Silvery belongs to, Teratornithidae, was almost closely related to Cathartidae (New World Vultures), they had significant differences. Reverse to popular belief, the Argentavis was likely a predator more a scavenger, with bear witness similar an inflexible beak, wider gape, stronger talons(though not every bit powerful as an eagle's), a hip more than adapted for walking, and a stronger congenital neck. The Argentavis likely functioned ecologically similar to the unrelated caracara or stork, spending lots of time foraging for modest prey on the footing striding with powerful legs and would soar between hunting grounds similar that of condors. They likely would take occasionally hunted and killed larger prey if it was unprotected, weak, or sick, and sometimes resorted to scavenging.
- The Argentavis is perhaps one of the about loved flyers or even most loved creatures in the entire game for several reasons: they are rather easy to tame, tin exist institute on almost all maps, has good Stamina once leveled to fly for quite long distances, has dandy Weight and Wellness, heals speedily when eating corpses, good Melee Damage and AOE, is medium sized, can carry a lot of creatures, and are fairly mutual. Amidst other reasons, this has put, in some people's eyes, the Argentavis as one of the nearly useful and essential creatures to take, whether in PVP, PVE, singleplayer, or other servers. Few other creatures come close to beingness used so often and beingness so versatile as the Argy.

- In Rockwell's Explorer Notes, he mentions his Argentavis named "Archimedes". This is a reference to the Greek mathematician. This could as well be a slight mention to the game Team Fortress 2, in which the grapheme known as the Medic has a pet dove likewise named Archimedes.
- In Helena'southward Explorer Notes, she has an Argentavis named "Athena", a reference to the Greek goddess of wisdom.
